While the common belief is that self-care is a deliberate, intentional act to nurture our emotional, mental, and physical well-being, it can sometimes feel forced in our society. The pressure to engage in more self-care can make it seem like a must-do rather than a choice. If you ever find yourself saying, "I don't have time!"—cut yourself some slack! You're likely already doing more for your well-being than you realize. Explore this list of unintentional self-care practices to see if you're unknowingly incorporating self-care into your daily life.

As we approach the holiday season, it's crucial to acknowledge that heightened stress is a common experience. This stress can exacerbate symptoms of mental health conditions like depression, anxiety, or substance use disorders.

Are sessions covered through insurance?

Most insurance plans cover the cost of counselling services with a Registered Social Worker (RSW).

You will be provided with a receipt at the end of each session which will contain all the necessary information to submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement.

What can you expect during your first session with a social worker?

While every circumstance is unique, sample questions a social worker may ask during a first appointment include:

Why are you seeking help?
Is it a new or long-standing problem?
Have things changed and, if so, how?
How are you managing other parts of your life?
Who can you count on for support?

How can counselling help me?

Counselling aims to help you deal with and overcome issues that are causing emotional pain or making you feel uncomfortable.
It can provide a safe and regular space for you to talk and explore difficult feelings. Your counsellor is there to support you and respect your views. Your counsellor will help you find your own insights into and understanding of your problems.
